                                  News | 'Civitas' Award presented
On 4th July the first presentation was made of a new award, to be made annually. The 'Civitas' award.
The Civitas award was created by Adrian James, who served as club President in 2010/11, to be awarded to someone who has shown outstanding service to the community and people of Milton Keynes. Members of the club may nominate any person or group they deem suitable to receive the award and a club vote decides on the recipient. The award will be presented once in every Rotary year which ends in June.
The first recipient is Francesca Skelton, who has lived in Milton Keynes since 1977. Since then she has been the Manager of Relate, Chair and then Trustee of the MK Community Foundation and has been Chair of Milton Keynes College since August 2007. Her work for the community was recognised when she became a Deputy Lieutenant of the county of Buckinghamshire. She is a keen supporter of the arts and sings with the Danesborough chorus.
However, more important was the self-effacing yet strong and dynamic way in which she undertook all of this. Never blowing her own trumpet yet promoting each of these organisations at every opportunity. A perfect example of the sort of community commitment that aids the growth and development of the society of Milton Keynes. Her nomination was agreed unanimously by the club.
