Swimathon 2016 - Disabled Event
On Saturday 27th of February, 60 disabled and 6 able body swimmers took to the water at Middleton Pool in Newport Pagnell to raise funds for the 2016 Rotary Charities.
All in all, the participants Swam 1374 lengths and raised £ 3,030 (Inclusive of Gift Aid)
The local lifeguards created a team of 6 and between them they swam 447 lengths a remarkable achievement indeed.
This year the Charities are:-
WILLEN HOSPICE -The funds will be used to help support the ‘Hospice at Home ‘ service which provides care for terminally ill patients in their own homes
SUPERSHOES - Gives individually painted shoes to children with life threatening conditions. Donation will fund an art oriented party for up to 100 of these children and their families in which professional artists will share their skills.
THAMES VALLEY AMBULANCE SERVICES - Helping to equip a new helicopter servicing the Milton Keynes area with the latest equipment and generally a doctor on board - each mission costs £ 2,500.
AGE UK MILTON KEYNES – Coping with many funding cuts. Help is urgently needed to support its services for older people in the community; in particular the free befriending service and its free and confidential information, advice and advocacy services.
DOGS FOR GOOD - Formerly Dogs for the Disabled – Rebranding itself as the services are extended to provide help for many families with autistic children by demonstrating how pets can be used with fairly simple training.
MILTON KEYNES HOSPITAL - Specifically earmarked for items to enhance the comfort for those patients and families using the new cancer clinic.
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION - The poppy fund collection for North Bucks
