Foundation

The Rotary International Assembly, San Diego.
International and Foundation are a joint committee this year, but chaired by Peter Snook (International) and Lionel Sutton (Foundation).
This year has been interesting and at times busy, especially when, for various reasons, committee members were not available to assist as they would have liked. However, we have achieved various goals.
Marondera
This project was completed during the last Rotary year. See separate page for Marondera Borehole Project
Purple Pinky
Following the Big Bulb Plant Day, the date of which had been chosen so that the crocuses would be in bloom for Rotary Day on February 23rd 2011, a number of the members convened at Jury’s Inn, where the bulbs had been planted. Photographs were duly taken of those who attended together with the small number of crocuses which had managed to fight there way through the ground that had been hardened by the ice and snow in the previous months.
On the same day a number of the Purple Pinky bookmarks were given out by the Holiday Inn hotel (one was placed in each bedroom), Jury’s Inn Hotel, Waterstones Book Shop and a doctor’s surgery.
See below and separate page for Focus on the Crocus
Helmond
The club is still considering having an interim meet up with our twin club Helmond Regio during 2011, and we have an official visit organised for May 18th to 20 in 2012.
Shelterbox
As previously reported £300 was collected towards the purchase of a shelter box. A coffee morning in Nash also raised over £320. A further £50 has since been donated by the residents of Oaktree Court, a sheltered housing development for people over 60.
See separate page for 'Hard work collecting on 16th April 2011.'
Thanks for Life (Polio Plus)
Together with the other clubs in the Zone a Casino night was held in November. The evening was enjoyed by all and the amount raised was sufficient to cover each club’s required contribution toward the Polio Plus Eradication Programme (See logo below for link)
The committee members for this year are Lionel Sutton, Chris Dancaster, Jan Lloyd, Philip Menday, John Napleton, John Slater, Peter Snook & Paul Willis.
