International
International and Foundation are a joint committee this year, but chaired by Peter Snook (International)
A Goan evening out
On 30th January 2012 the International Committee organised an Indian/Goan evening at the Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford. A very convivial evening was enjoyed by 15 members plus their partners and friends, making a total of 37, who all ingested a most delicious selection of Indian dishes.
Together with a raffle the evening raised a total of £312.50 which will go to support the El Shaddai charitable trust’s project in Goa which supports an orphanage, and a centre for distressed women.

Visit to Ghent with Helmond Regio club members
On Friday 23rd September 3 members of MK Rotary and their partners arrived in Ghent to meet up with 3 members of our twin club of Helmond Regio as an interim meeting before our next scheduled official visit in 2012. Those attending were our President Chris Schimmel and her husband Tony, plus Peter and Penny Snook, Chris and Ursula Dancaster and past member Friedhelm Stellet and his wife Dorit. From Helmond Koos and Ans van der Elst, Meint and Maartje Veninga, and International Chairman Bob Mattheij (who sadly lost his wife Marie Anne earlier this year.
On Saturday an enjoyable day in beautiful weather was spent sightseeing in Ghent including an informative boat trip around the rivers and canals of this interesting medieval city. This was followed by a group meeting to discuss the following points.
The date for the next scheduled visit was confirmed as the weekend of l8/19/20th May, 2012. It was discussed that most of the MK Club would prefer to be hosted, if this was at all possible. Numbers need to be noted quickly in order for this to be organised. There would, of course, be some who would prefer to be in an hotel. Some discussion on the West End Hotel then ensued with regard to the problems that had arisen on the last visit. Hopefully, this will be resolved as it is once again the venue for Helmonds’ meetings.
It was also suggested another joint project would be a good idea - perhaps Helmond choosing on this occasion, possibly continuing with the school (orphanage) in Marondera. There was some interest as to whether further means of educational aids, (books etc.,) might be provided, further discussion needed within both clubs.
Thanks were given to the International Officers for their suggestions and the meeting was followed by a very convivial dinner shared by all. It was felt that this meeting helped with the continuity of our twinning and on Sunday morning the members went their separate ways feeling that the visit had strengthened ties between the two clubs.
Peter Snook, International Chairman.

Marondera
This project has now been completed. See separate page for Marondera Borehole Project
Thanks for Life (Polio Plus)
Together with the other clubs in the Zone a Casino night was held in November. The evening was enjoyed by all and the amount raised was sufficient to cover each club’s required contribution toward the Polio Plus Eradication Programme
Purple Pinky
Following the Big Bulb Plant Day, the date of which had been chosen so that the crocuses would be in bloom for Rotary Day on February 23rd 2011, a number of the members convened at Jury’s Inn, where the bulbs had been planted. Photographs were duly taken of those who attended together with the small number of crocuses which had managed to fight there way through the ground that had been hardened by the ice and snow in the previous months.
On the same day a number of the Purple Pinky bookmarks were given out by the Holiday Inn hotel (one was placed in each bedroom), Jury’s Inn Hotel, Waterstones Book Shop and a doctor’s surgery.
See below and separate page for Focus on the Crocus
Helmond
The club is still considering having an interim meet up with our twin club Helmond Regio during 2011 and we have an official visit organised for May 18th to 20th in 2012.
Shelterbox
As previously reported £300 was collected towards the purchase of a shelter box. A coffee morning in Nash also raised over £320. A further £50 has since been donated by the residents of Oaktree Court, a sheltered housing development for people over 60.
See separate page for 'Hard work collecting on 16th April 2011.'
The committee members for this year are Peter Snook, John Slater, Chris Dancaster, Jan Lloyd, Philip Menday, John Napleton, Santosh Rai, Lionel Sutton & Paul Willis.
