News | Lend a Hand 7th May 2011
Many older people increasingly find it difficult to carry out routine tasks around their homes due to a variety of disabilities and conditions. In collaboration with AGE UK in Milton Keynes and once a year in May club members supported by members of their families and members from other rotary clubs in the area offer to carry out a range of tasks (free of charge) from house cleaning (e.g. windows and gutters), decorating and repairs, gardening activities, the removal of unwanted items and shopping trips.
This year on Saturday 7th May more than 20 volunteers completed over 30 jobs. Although this was notably fewer than in recent years the work was very much appreciated by the recipients, one over 100 years old, and was again very rewarding for the volunteers - who are not always younger than those they help!
