Swimathon 2017 | Donations totalling £ 25,000 distributed.
The 2017 Presentation event took place on Tuesday 21st of June at the Holiday Inn, Central Milton Keynes.
Due to the excessive heat in the balcony, the hotel kindly offered to move the event to the restaurant to avoid roasted Rotarians and Charities.
Ben Affleck, 39 years a Rotary member and the only remaining founder member of Milton Keynes Rotary Club, gave an interesting and most enjoyable presentation about Rotary.
Last year’s Milton Keynes Mayor, Steve Coventry, then told us about the ups and downs of being Mayor. Steve was involved in many Rotarian activities during his year.
Mayor of Newport Pagnell, and a member of Milton Keynes Rotary Club, Derek Eastman, then presented special awards as follows:

Val Price, standing in for Jackie Starkey, then announced several special awards for the Disabled Swim Club:

Darren Hayward, Manager of The Holiday Inn then presented the charity cheques. He was warmly thanked for the support that he and his hotel gave to this event.
Charity cheques totalling £25,000 were presented to:
The Redway School, Milton Keynes Hospital, Arts Gateway, Pandora, Willen Hospice, Diffent Strokes, Winter Night Shelter, Milton Keynes Cardiac Group, Dogs for Good and The Disabled Swim Club.
Dave Gillow, Chair of the Swimathon Committee and the evening’s host, summarised this year’s Swimathon and congratulated all those involved on such a worthwhile activity.
Finally, Cheryl Law, Rotary District Governor Elect, rounded off the evening by offering the thanks of the Rotary District to MK Rotary Club and its many helpers.
