MILTON KEYNES YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR
The seventh Milton Keynes Young Musician of the Year competition took place on 8th February 2017 in the Ousedale Secondary School, Newport Pagnell. Each secondary school in Milton Keynes had identified a candidate. There were no vocalists in this year’s competition although the audience was entertained with a striking performance by Sarah Ikumu from the Hazeley Academy, last year’s winner.
This year’s winner was 13 year old pianist Teo Hughes from Swanbourne House School who gave excellent performances of works by Bach and Stravinsky from memory.
The runner up was Ryan Farnes from Ousedale School playing classical guitar who gave very sensitive performances of works by Tarrega and Turina.
Our congratulations go to the winners and to the other performers for an excellent evening of music –Thomas Marshall, Piano – Emily Abbott, Violin –Louis Wilson, Horn – Toby Dytryic, Orchestral Percussion – Don Chan, Classical Guitar– Amelie Trendall, Cello, and Adam Chappell, Cornet.
The judges were James Gower and Paul Harris. Additional Music was provided by a group of singers from Ousedale School.
